pure talent

without comments

It was end of September one of lonely Saturday night I had nothing else to do and I was listening mix FM, I heard “Umbrella” on the show that wasn’t by Rihanna, but instead was by someone. It was some girl that I have never heard before and I just needed to find out who it was. I searched through mix FM website but couldn’t found out who was that girl.

After two months finally I found that it was a girl named Marie (pronounced as mar-ee-yay) Digby.

My friend emailed me a link to clip of Marie Digby, who apparently posted some videos of herself singing acoustic covers on YouTube about year ago. Since then her cover of “Umbrella” has been played on an FM radio stations all over the world.

Half Japanese and half Irish-American, she has attracted over 2.3 million views of her acoustic version of Rihanna’s chart topping rubbish “Umbrella” on her YouTube. She has some chops. She said on her YouTube account that she just plays by ear and the rest is her history.

All bunch of videos uploaded that are just her singing and playing guitar or piano. She has an awesome voice and gorgeous looks and there is a good mix of original songs and covers.

I’m so glad I found her again, I personally think this Marie Digby version is far better than the Rihanna version.

Youtube has opened many doors for actors, comedians, directors, and musicians. She is one of lucky one too and its pretty cool to see talent discovered this way via the web.

Here’s the original video:

great entrepreneur of malaysia

Malaysia has lost a great entrepreneur.

Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, founder of Genting Berhad, owner of Malaysia’s first and only casino and also Malaysia’s highest theme park, third richest in Malaysia and 204th richest in the world, worth an estimated USD4.2 billion and father of 6. He was 90.

I remember news paper says he was born in Anxi in Fujian province, the fifth child among seven siblings who migrated to Malaysia at the age of 19 with only a suitcase with RM2 in his pocket. He made his first fortune by trading in second-hand heavy machinery in the 1940s after the end of Japanese occupation, and later ventured into mining. While working on a hydroelectric power project in 1964 in Cameron Highlands, a popular hill resort patronized mostly by British colonials at the time, Lim dreamt of building a similar hill resort nearer to the country’s biggest city, Kuala Lumpur, as a getaway for local residents.

When I heard his death, I only knew all history about Genting and him.

Now I know little more about Malaysia again.

And his contributions to Malaysia shall never be forgotten.

Photo of the day: I shall go up again soon =)
