time for toilet revolution
Everywhere I go, before enter the toilet I was always wishing and hoping there’s “Westernize” toilet. But yeah mostly “Asian Squat” is waiting for me with hose hanging down next to the toilet and tub of water with small pail.
Ahh… Tandas. Only comes with toilet problem I really become like my mom, can’t tahan kind of character. Sometime there weren’t toilet paper or even the toilet paper holder. The toilet consist of the toilet bowl, a tap and a small pail… Ahh… Stress… hahahaha
In “Asian Squat” toilet I thought both hose and the pail are supposedly meant to used in the manner of bidet, but I found out that I can find pail in Chinese family house… This was my one of huge question for many many years since I was seven.
And then last year I went to one of the lovely room, I went into the toilet and couldn’t flush. I was thinking how to flash and I pulled the flush handle many times yes confirm it’s broke. So no choice I had to ask him to how does he normally flash toilet (yeah I know what a stupid question huh?) then he told me using pail “scoop” some water and manually flush the toilet by myself.
Oh what a brilliant idea I never thought of it last 20 years of my life and that could be brilliant answer for my mysterious Chinese family toilet with pail question.
But no, it’s horribly wrong. Every time in Chinese family toilet with pail that situation I never use pail before. I just looked at it and thought WHY? And ending up just flash normally… No pail.
You know what? I got SOLUTION for this mysterious Chinese “pail” yesterday.
In the toilet I thought hose and the pail are supposedly meant to used in the manner of bidet for 15 years then my problem was how come Chinese also practice the Muslim way of toilet. Only the hose is used in the manner of bidet in Muslim way. And YES PAIL!! PAIL!! is for FLASH MANUALLY!! for WHAT?!
SAVE THE WATER!! SAVE OUR PRECIOUS WATER!!
We, Japanese loves RE-CYCLE, loves TECHNOLOGY, loves SAKE (liquor) but we don’t think much about WATER that it other than that we expect it to flow from our taps on demand. We leave it running when brushing our teeth, cleaning our cars and homes, and doing our laundry. We use potable treated water for flushing our toilets and pouring into the ground for watering plants.
People will think that Japanese are very advance in their life. But answer is not really. Could be we are just only advance in hand phone or cartoons =p Fresh potable water is getting harder to find. There’s plenty of water, but only if you like it filthy or salted. How many of Japanese knew this?
Few years back I learned in World Issues class that almost half the world’s people face serious fresh water shortages, and of those that do get water, only half again have access to truly potable water that doesn’t cause disease.
There are more and more people, and people are moving into areas that used to be sustainable watersheds. The human imprint on the planet is getting much bigger than the ecosystem that supports us.
Malaysia is currently debating laws requiring buildings and residential apartments to catch and store rainwater for use in flushing toilets, washing cars, and watering lawns. The laws limit use of treated pipe water to drinking and personal hygiene. Hey this is more advance than any technology in Japan!!
These little measures help, and it’s can be make much better in the future and the only thing I can change right now is how I use water.
Let’s go and buy pail =)
